I hold a Bachelor of Arts and Grad. Dip. Professional Writing through Deakin University, Victoria. I started photography at a young age when I was given a Kodak Instamatic 133-X camera using Kodak 126 film with a four bulb disposable flash unit. I have that camera to this day, although it has been a while since the camera saw any service. After this, I then moved on to Minolta and Rolleiflex SLR film cameras.

Previously, I co-owned and operated a retail firm in Melbourne selling optical and photographic equipment including Nikon, Minox and Leica cameras among other products, and in 2001 I was selected to attend the prestigious photography school, the Leica Academy in Wetzler, Germany. At present I shoot with Nikon photographic equipment, but the Leica bug never goes away.

In 2004 I moved to Tasmania to join The Examiner Newspaper as a journalist/sub-editor. From 2004 until late 2007 I was involved in writing and taking photographs for the feature properties in that publication’s weekly Property Guide/Domain and its Travelways magazine as well as planning, writing, sub-editing and photography for general features. During this period I started working as a freelance photographer/journalist on a part-time basis for a number of clients and publications.

In 2008 I worked as The Examiner’s Design & Production Services manager, before leaving at the end of that year to provide my photography and communications services on a full-time basis, launching my business Bret Salinger photography + communications.

Anjie has been working with Bret since January 2011. She came to me with a Diploma in Graphic Design from the Tasmanian Polytechnic. Her role as production assistant sees her doing loads of interesting projects – from taking photographs and editing photos to wedding album and brochure design. She assists Bret with real estate and as second shooter for weddings.

Her take on design: “Design is all around us, it informs, inspires and beautifies … and it is a world full of amazing work to keep me focused on improving as a designer. In my own time I enjoy playing around with typography, vector illustrations and print design.”
